David Codrea: Gun dealer Reese takes defense stand in firearms smuggling case

The prosecution has rested and Rick Reese has taken the stand in his own defense in the U.S. District Court in Las Cruces, N.M.

Seems the prosecutor is trying to get Reese on "clerical errors" (an incorrect serial number that was later corrected), since the evidence is that Torres was the one filling out and signing the 4473 - and apparently passing the NCIC check each time.

She's the one who signed "under penalty of perjury", not Reese. So FFL's are supposed to be mind readers now, amd somehow "know" that somebody is a straw purchaser?

What's amazing is how sales to legit purchasers is getting harder and harder and sales to straw purchasers is getting easier and easier. Had to jump through yet one more hoop last time I bought something, and the FFL said that ATF had changed the reporting requirements 3 times in the past year and he's so sick and tired of all the rigamarole that he's quitting the business after this year.

Quitting the business is the idea!

'member how happy all the big dealers were that they were able to get rid of the small ones and limit competion for buyers due to the atf's regulations? Well now we see that the benefits are not as permanent as they would have thought back then.
