Not that I've bought any new firearms recently, but I've always been a Mossberg man when it comes to scatterguns.

One reason to own a Mossy pump gun is that the shell lifter is elevated when the bolt is closed. You're not going to get your gloved finger caught when loading shells into the tube. I saw it happen more than once during 3 gun shoots in winter.

I have owned at least 10 and maybe more shotguns in my life, not one of them was a semi auto. I would never stake my life on a semi auto. They are usually more complex and more susceptible to dirt and ammunition sensitivity. Now I know that this will get some of you that swear by your semi auto scatter gun and have had no issues. I was a guide in Dakota territory for pheasant, grouse, dove. etc.for over 10 years, and I have been around a lot of shotguns, cheap and spendy. I have rarely been out shot by any of them with my Remington or Mossberg 12 gauge "pump". I will recommend no other shotgun for hunting or defense but a pump.
