WashPost Asks, With Straight Face: Why Didn't Strict Gun Laws Stop Charlie Hebdo Massacre?

It’s not an anomaly to the 12 dead people. It’s a failure of the gun laws. Or, it’s a failure of gun law backers to see that violent terrorists aren’t gun-control champions.

My Daughter went to France to visit a friend she met in school and who with her mother had previously visited us in the states. I went to France to pick her up after her vacation was over. The Family she was staying with had bars over their windows and doors. A multitude of different types of locks on the doors and windows. Constantly I heard them tell the kids it is not safe to do this or to do that. Anyone who walked or drove down the street was regarded with suspicion. I felt like I was in prison in the house. I mentioned the prison feeling o the family and was told they envy that we live in a place where we don't even lock our doors. I mentioned that there is no crime because everyone has guns. This brought a 3-4 hour dialogue about how bad guns were and how much harm they do to society and how truly horrible people who had guns were(except us because they knew us). I pointed out that they were the ones who lived in fear of everyone and anyone and lived in a prison of a house.

Surely a really, really strong law that prevented criminals from breaking the law would work?

The present laws are just not strong enough!

We need more laws outlawing the breaking of the ones we have!

Yeah. Right!

Gun laws stop little, but give a reason to arrest and prosecute after a violent act. The terrorists could have accomplished the same results with weapons other than guns.
